We Serve Others

We offer a variety of opportunities for you to serve others, both locally and globally. Here is a just a sample of our ongoing mission work.

3C’s is a Children’s Clothing Closet located just north of the church building which offers good used children’s clothing to families in Guthrie and surrounding counties. Clothing is distributed by appointment only on the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Donations of gently used children’s clothing, coats, baby equipment, toys/games/books, sheets/blankets/towels can be brought to the church during business hours  For questions or appointments, call Mary Kay at 641-755-2290.

United Methodist Women, a group organized around education and advocacy for local and global mission work. This group meets at 7pm on the third Monday of each month from September through November and February through May. For more information, contact Debbie Rockwell at 641-755-3796.

Prayer Shawl Ministry creates and distributes knitted or crocheted prayer shawls to persons who are ill, have suffered a loss, or are in the midst of a crisis. You can get involved by knitting or crocheting a shawl (patterns are available), by sharing the name of friend or loved on in need of God’s blessing, or by supporting the ministry financially. Volunteers In Mission is a group than organizes hands-on mission work. They may partner with a local group such as Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity or Bidwell Riverside in Des Moines or plan their own mission trip to areas in need such as Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. Tori’s Angels Foundation is a local nonprofit group founded by church members that provides opportunities for community members across Central Iowa and beyond to make a difference in the lives of infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening challenges. They reach out to the community both near and far to gain funds to support families who need real-life angels to help them through one or more crises. Change a Child’s Story is part of the Bishop’s Poverty to Opportunity Initiative to help low income students learn to read at grade level so that they will complete high school and be eligible to vocational or other higher education opportunities. We purchase new children’s to distribute through New Opportunities in Guthrie Center, collect used children’s books to stock local Little Free Libraries, and read with elementary students in Panorama Elementary School.
